Become a Literacy Corps Member with Literacy Delaware!

 

We Need YOU!

FACTS:

  • At least 340,000 Delawareans aged 16-74 are not proficient readers (56%)
  • Adult learners are on a waiting list due to demand exceeding capacity
  • Becoming a Literacy Instructor will help us create a more literate Delaware and give these learners the chance to succeed!
  • Literacy Instructors complete one year of service to support the various programs offered by Literacy Delaware.  From one-on-one tutoring to small class instruction our Corps members make sure adult learners are achieving success in our program.

Benefits you'll receive:

  • Training provided by nationally recognized organizations covering basic literacy and ESL Instruction

  • Monthly living allowance stipend

  • Student loan deferment

  • Education award upon successful completion of service

    • Award can be used towards federal student loans and higher education expenses.  For members aged 55+, the award can be gifted to a child, stepchild, or grandchild.
  • Network with professionals in the nonprofit sector in addition to active alumni within AmeriCorps Delaware.
