Literacy Delaware Job Posting Executive Director 

Organization Summary: 

Literacy Delaware is a statewide nonprofit committed to advancing literacy through training, tutoring, English language acquisition, and advocacy for all Delawareans. Since 1983, the organization has been empowering adults who struggle with reading, writing, or English proficiency.  Literacy Delaware helps open doors to employment, education, and civic participation. Supported by foundations, individual donors, and a dedicated network of volunteers, Literacy Delaware is a champion for adult literacy across the state.


Position Summary: 

Due to the planned retirement of its Executive Director, Literacy Delaware is searching for a successor with the skills and experience required to continue its record as a positive force for literacy in the state.


Given the extraordinary times and circumstances being faced by non-profits, our next Executive Director will require skills as a change agent across many stakeholder groups, particularly in the areas of state government legislation, federal policies, funding and relationships, foundations, other organizations addressing literacy/illiteracy, and schools.


The ability to articulate a compelling vision of the future of Literacy Delaware that resonates with stakeholders, potential collaborative partners and influencers and leads them to action is a core qualification for this position.


A proven record of success related to these qualifications is a strong preference.


Details:

The Executive Director leads Literacy Delaware, ensuring the achievement of its mission, vision, strategic goals, and financial objectives:


Salary Range: $75K-95K depending on experience

Type of Position: Full-time (35 hours per week)

Hours:

Monday, Thursday, Friday: Remote
Tuesday, Wednesday: In Office 
Some evenings and weekends

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy:

Represent Literacy Delaware at conferences, events and meetings.
Advocate for adult literacy policies with government and business leaders.

Implement and advance the strategic plan.
Stay updated on the latest in the field and act as a thought leader.
Lead data collection and analysis for literacy programs.
Program Management & Operations:

Guide staff and Board in developing and evaluating programs.
Supervise staff and manage day-to-day operations.
Explore new adult literacy programs and initiatives.


Board of Directors:

Prepare reports for board meetings.
Assist with coordinating board meetings and retreats.
Partner with the Board to implement policies.


Financial:

Develop and manage the annual budget.
Oversee financial reporting and compliance.
Manage grant applications and reporting.
Build relationships with donors and grant makers.


Outreach, Advocacy, and Marketing:

Raise Literacy Delaware's public profile through communications.
Advocate for literacy policies with other organizations.
Educate the public and leaders about adult literacy issues.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (Education Degree preferred).
Literacy experience preferred. 
Experience in fiscal management and financial oversight.
Proven fundraising and grant management skills.
Experience in program development and evaluation (adult education preferred).
Proficiency in training and program delivery.
Successful record with community and national partners.
Ability to attract and retain diverse staff and volunteers.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Non-profit organization experience.
